One of the most succinct and convincing arguments (if deeply idealistic) for socialism that I've ever read: http://is.gd/dOddI [davepwsmith]— 2d ago via Twitter

What a waster
How long has it been since I posted? It's a disgrace I tell you. I suppose it must have something to do with my busy, busy life! As is standard for climbers and mountaineers, I've spent the last two months on call, ready to drop everything in favour of good Scottish Winter conditions. It has turned out that despite being touted as the best winter for years, all the best weather seems to have been on weekdays! I've managed very little in the way of climbing, but I was up in the Cairngorms a few weeks ago, and due to the amount of powder a group of us decided to give Ski Touring a bash. Now, I have never really skied before, save for a lamentable school trip and a family holiday a long, long time ago. But despite a complete lack of technique, and a series of hood-filling, powder-munching face-plants, I have to admit that I loved it! I'll stick some photos up in the gallery for you to peruse at your leisure.
So, after two days of powder-bashing (the snow was eight feet deep in places) I headed back to Uni, and back to work. I'm spending a lot of time at the moment working on my Creative Writing module, which I love. I've got a few pieces which I should probably stick up here, to be honest, but it's mainly all work-in-progress. For the first time, I'm actually starting to think that writing is what I might want to do with my life. Spanish courses and so on are all going all right too, and my year abroad is starting to shape up. I'm certainly looking forward to it!
Last weekend I was up in the Lakes (hurrah!) with the climbing club, although I went up a day early with Dan to crank out some more routes. We visited some interesting crags, and managed to get a fair bit climbed. Furthermore, it didn't even rain! I decided, for the millionth time, that the Lake District is my favourite place in the world, and that it is where I want to live. Whether I'll actually do anything about it remains to be seen.
I'm also pretty planned out for the next couple of months - and pretty excited about it too! I've managed to wangle a trip to Norway skiing for relatively little money, after which I'm going to spend a couple of weeks in the Lakes, I hope, and then back to Uni. Sounds ideal to me. There are also all manner of trips and gigs and so on that are too numerous to list, but suffice to say I've been pretty busy for the last few months, and it shows no sign of stopping!
