Reminding me: I’m not the sort
Of person who can play team sport
I never really understood
How hitting balls with bits of wood
Could stir up any real emotion.
Suddenly, goal-line commotion
Interrupts my train of thought
“I’m telling you, it’s long not short!“
The players argue, bicker, fight
Tooth and nail over the right
To punt a sphere towards a net.
A need to win I just don’t get.
