Oaxaca – Veracruz : Dodge Dynasty Delight
Finally we arrived in Oaxaca this morning, and made our way to the garage where our car was awaiting us. The mechanic pulled it our for us to have a look, (it was moving, a good sign) before explaining that whilst it now moved, the exhaust and the suspension were both still absolutely shagged. We got the exhaust fixed just down the road, and decided that the suspension could wait until we stayed overnight somewhere. We had a hamburger, and set off in our newly fixed car back to the centre, where Mai was waiting for us. She had decided to join in our fabulous adventure. We left Oaxaca to find the tree that locals incorrectly claim to be the biggest in the world. It is very big though. After spending a few minutes there ("Well that's... erm... a very big tree"), we were on the road.
It felt good to be in the car again, especially since it no longer sounds like it's about to die. We had all the traditional music playing loudly as we sped down the incredibly smooth toll road to Veracruz, stopping only to replenish our stock of beer. I say incredibly smooth, I mean comparatively incredibly smooth. There were still some potholes that could probably accommodate a mini cooper, at a stretch. With pretty much no problems all the way, we were soon in the city, and trying to navigate our way through the one-way system to the hotel we had chosen. Once we arrived, and parked the car, we carried the beers up to the rooms and spent most of the evening chatting and revelling in the glory of once again being free agents on the open road. At about midnight we set out for tacos, and after walking around for about half an hour, found one just around the corner from our hotel.
