Blogger Bummer

The last couple of days have been a bit rubbish really. For starters, I had a French exam yesterday. I think it went quite well actually, but any exam is always a downer. Added to which, today I had a three hour spanish lesson, which was further marred by hayfever. And Blogger, which I use to maintain this, seems to be in a state of perpetual brokenness, so posting is somewhat erratic. That should at least put a healthy damper on the aforementioned inane ramblings!

On the upside I did manage to develop my film, finally, and whilst developing flim in itself is an incredibly boring process, it does mean that I might actually be able to print the photos. Photos of lots of things, actually, flowers, railways, DJ and Claire — so that should be fun. I tried scanning them into my computer, the results of which can be described in four words: digital technology my arse. That’s right, I can make better prints than my 4800 dpi scanner and printer, photoshop and hi-tech computing wizardry with… a lightbulb in a box. Ok, so a photo enlarger is slightly more complex than a lightbulb in a box (it’s a lightblub in a box with a lens), but really, you’d think all this new-fangled technology would make things easier; as it stands it takes an hour to scan 18 negatives, hideously exaggerating the grain and with some really weird tonal abberations, so it takes another hour to fix the 3 I choose to print, and then when I try to print them, not only does the print look nothing like what’s on the screen, but after one 8×10 the ink runs out. Back to silver prints until I get a digital camera I think, as scanning negatives seems to be about as effective as eating soup with a fork.
